Psychiatric Hospitalisation

When inpatient care is needed

Vietnam does not have private psychiatric hospitals. For psychiatric emergencies requiring inpatient care, the following guidance applies.

Additional option: The National Institute of Mental Health (Viện Sức khỏe Tâm thần), located within Bạch Mai Hospital in Đống Đa, is Vietnam's leading psychiatric research and clinical institution and offers specialist outpatient and inpatient services. Bệnh viện Tâm thần Hà Nội in Long Biên has more direct experience with international patients and is generally the more practical first option for acute care.

A note on other international clinics: VinMec Times City, Hanoi French Hospital, and Family Medical Practice provide excellent general medical care but do not have inpatient psychiatric capacity. For psychiatric emergencies requiring admission, please go directly to Bệnh viện Tâm thần Hà Nội.

For expats who can travel, Manarom Hospital in Bangkok is the nearest specialist psychiatric hospital with inpatient capacity. Bumrungrad International is an option for outpatient assessment only — it does not have an inpatient psychiatric unit. Repatriation to your home country remains the most supported long-term option for complex cases — contact your embassy medical officer and international insurer simultaneously.
