Clinical Services

What we offer.

Westlake Psychiatry is a specialist outpatient clinic. The following describes what we do and how we approach it. If you are unsure whether what you are looking for is on this list, the best thing to do is write to us directly.

01 Psychiatric Evaluation

Every new patient begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation — ninety minutes set aside to understand not just the presenting concern but the full context of a person's life. We take history seriously. Before we discuss diagnosis or treatment, we want to know who you are, what has brought you here, and what has and hasn't helped before.

Evaluations are available for adults, adolescents, and children. Where relevant, we welcome family members or caregivers to be part of the conversation.

02 Psychopharmacology & Medication Management

When medication is appropriate, we prescribe thoughtfully and explain clearly — what we are targeting, what to expect, and what the alternatives are. We do not prescribe on autopilot, and we do not assume that what worked for someone else will work for you.

Follow-up visits are fifty minutes. We use that time. Medication management at Westlake Psychiatry is not a brief check-in — it is an ongoing clinical relationship in which the prescription is one tool among several.

03 Psychotherapy & Therapy Coordination

For patients who would benefit from dedicated psychotherapy, we actively coordinate with therapists, counsellors, and psychologists in Hà Nội and beyond — helping identify the right fit and maintaining clinical communication across providers. A good referral is part of good care.

Dr. Allison sees a small number of patients for individual psychotherapy directly. Current availability for this is limited — please enquire.

04 Child, Adolescent & Family Psychiatry

We see young people across the full age range — from early childhood through late adolescence — for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, developmental concerns, and more.

Family is always part of the picture. We work closely with parents and caregivers as clinical partners, and we maintain active relationships with school counselors and educational teams at international schools in Hà Nội.

05 OCD & Anxiety Disorders

OCD is frequently misunderstood and often undertreated. Dr. Allison trained specifically in the evaluation and treatment of OCD and related conditions — including treatment-resistant presentations and Tourette syndrome — and brings that depth of experience to a context where specialist OCD care is otherwise unavailable.

We work with patients across the severity range, from first presentations to those who have tried multiple treatments without adequate response. Where Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) or other structured behavioural interventions are indicated, we coordinate with therapists trained in these approaches.

06 Attention, Concentration & Neurodiversity

We evaluate attention, concentration, and neurodevelopmental concerns — in children and adults — as part of a full psychiatric assessment. Difficulty concentrating can have many causes, and we look at the whole picture rather than starting from a conclusion. We also see patients with OCD, Tourette syndrome, and autism spectrum presentations.

An important note: Westlake Psychiatry cannot prescribe ADHD medication (methylphenidate, Ritalin, Concerta). These are tightly regulated in Vietnam and can only be prescribed through licensed hospital pharmacies. Please read our dedicated page for full details before booking.

07 Memory & Cognitive Assessment

We evaluate memory concerns, cognitive decline, and late-life psychiatric presentations with the kind of clinical depth that comes from training at a dedicated memory centre. Assessment is grounded in thorough history-taking and careful clinical examination — not reflexive testing.

For families navigating a loved one's cognitive changes in an international context, we also provide guidance on what the findings mean practically — for driving, for living arrangements, for longer-term planning — and can coordinate with neurologists and other specialists as needed.

08 Cross-cultural & TCK Psychiatry

Some of the most interesting and most underserved clinical territory in Hà Nội lies at the intersection of culture, identity, and mental health. We see expats navigating displacement and belonging; Third Culture Kids (TCKs) working out who they are across multiple worlds; Vietnamese families with significant international exposure; and anyone for whom the standard clinical frame doesn't quite fit their life.

This is not a specialty add-on. It is baked into how we practice — because in this city, that is simply the nature of the work.

A note on who we see

Westlake Psychiatry is an affirming practice. LGBTQ+ patients, people navigating gender identity, and neurodiverse patients are welcome here. We meet each person where they are. The clinical work begins with who you are, not with who we expect you to be.
