Careful evaluation and genuine continuity. The visit is where the work happens.
Specialty depth
UCSF-trained expertise across adult, child, and complex presentations — including OCD, neurodiversity, and dementia.
Cross-cultural fluency
Deeply attuned to Third Culture Kid (TCK) and expat experience, bilingual care pathways, and the Vietnamese family context.
The practice
The Westlake Institute is founded by Dr. Stephen Allison — a UCSF-trained American psychiatrist with over a decade of clinical leadership, including directing an inpatient psychiatric service in Marin County, California.
Now based in Hanoi, Dr. Allison brings that depth of experience to a city where specialist psychiatric care can be hard to find — offering evaluation, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, neurodevelopmental assessment, and coordinated care for adults, children, and families.
The Institute collaborates with international schools, local hospitals, and specialist partners in autism and neurodevelopmental care across Hà Nội.
Areas of care
Evaluation and treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, psychosis, and treatment-resistant presentations. Psychopharmacology with psychotherapy coordination.
Psychiatric evaluation for children and adolescents, including ADHD, anxiety, and developmental concerns. Built on growing clinical experience in Hanoi's international school community.
Diagnostic evaluation and psychiatric support for autism and neurodevelopmental conditions. Integration with ABA providers and educational teams for holistic care planning.
Specialized care attentive to the unique psychological demands of expatriate life, Third Culture Kid (TCK) identity, transitions, and cross-cultural adjustment for individuals and families.
Careful clinical evaluation of cognitive decline, dementia, and late-life psychiatric concerns — grounded in thorough assessment rather than reflexive testing. For families trying to make sense of a complex picture.
Second opinions, complex case consultation, and coordinated care with physicians, therapists, and schools. A trusted specialist anchor for Hanoi's international medical community.
